Recovering from surgery is hard work. It’s work that for the most part I haven’t put in yet. I worked hard for the first couple of months after surgery but have become a lazy bum since my formal rehab ended.
Sometimes I wish I had the unlimited resources that Donovan McNabb has. He tore his ACL this past weekend. As a member of the Philadelphia Eagles he’ll have the best of medical and rehab care money can buy to help him down the road to recovery. I on the other hand have limited resources. I had to stop rehab because my insurance only pays 80% of rehab costs. That other 20% adds up fast.
My knee is fine for regular day to day activities but nowhere near where it needs to be for me to play soccer again even if it is just on a recreational basis. Spring of ‘07 was my target for getting back on the field. It’s looking like I’ll need to push that target back. We’ll see.

Daryl,
If you work hard at strengthing both knees equally you should not have a problem. Also work on your “cardio” in the mean time and Soccer should be a “breeze”.
This “cardio” work doesn’t always have to be running. It can be stationary bikes (1 hour or more); treadmill (30-45 mins); eliptical trainer (30 – 60 minutes); swimming; running in water (45-60 mins)
The strength training needs to focus on the legs. Obviously, since this is the area of the body where the injury occured.
Changing Subject: How about two African-American coaches in the Super Bowl!!! They are both fine examples for everybody in that they are both hardworking coaches who are not ashamed of telling others about their beliefs in God. Plus they are very good freinds! As an African American coach I know firsthand how difficult life can be for you. That’s from an “old coach” (31 years in the business)! I’m awfully proud of both of them!!

Wow Dad! What a pleasant surprise. Welcome to my neck of the woods. I’ve got a post about Tony Dungy and Lovie Smith stewing around in my head. Just haven’t sat down and typed it out yet. Hopefully I’ll have it up BEFORE the Super Bowl. Thanks for stopping by.
