Obama distances himself from another clergyman – Yahoo! News

29 May

Taken from this article about Obama’s latest clergical liability.

CHICAGO – He’s a white priest at a largely black church. He’s held hands with Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan. He’s been arrested dozens of times and battled anyone he thinks has wronged his parish — from gun dealers to a local Catholic sports league. Now the Rev. Michael Pfleger is something else: the latest thorn in the side of presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Racially charged comments Pfleger made last week mocking Obama rival Hillary Rodham Clinton — as a guest at Obama’s church, no less —

Obama needs to stop going to church. Televangelists were invented for this exact situation. You get to have church from the comfort of your own couch. Watch a Creflo Dollar program. Maybe a little TD Jakes. Mix in a little health and wealth gospel from Joel Olsteen. Throw in a Veggie Tales tape for the kids and you’re good to go.

Where You At?

It’s been pretty dead on here as of late. Okay, okay. It’s been completed dead here but the party is jumpin’ over at my other blog, okiboy.vox.com. Heard on over there and get caught up in the madness.

This Is A Trip

19 Aug

This is unbelievable. Actually it’s not but roll with me here. What’s the point of convicting someone of a crime if they’re not even going to server any jail time? According to the article Nicole didn’t even make it to a jail cell. Why waste the tax payers money? Why go through the whole charade of bringing her to court, convicting and sentencing her then toting her down to the jail to be processed, booked and get her picture taken. That seems totally pointless. It looks like a glorified photo op for both the LA County Sheriff’s office (Look at us we’re being tough on crime! Celebs get the same treatment as the regular Joes.) and Nicole Richie herself (Hey Paris look! I’m like going to jail and stuff. Just like you!). What’s sad is this “treatment” is attributed to over crowding in the jails. I don’t know if it really had to do with that or if it was due to her celebrity status but the whole episode seems ridiculous to me. 82 minutes in jail. People spend more time waiting in line at the DMV for pete’s sake.

And in the is it just me department, is it just me or does she not take the exact same mug shot every time she gets arrested. Only the clothes are different. Witness exhibit A (above) and exhibit B (right). Direct head on stare. Head tilted slightly forward. Sheepish smirk. I wonder if a fashion photographer taught her that pose.

Bye Bye Rush. Don’t Let The Door Hit Ya Where The Good Lord Split Ya

02 Oct

Rush Resigns (Alternate Headline: ESPN Said Quit or You’re Fired). All I have to say about this is good riddance and peace out. I don’t like Rush. I think he’s full of hot air and enjoys enciting controversy. He knew exactly how his comments would be construed before he said them. That being said the comments he made if taken at face value are pretty harmless. That not withstanding, Ray Charles himself could have seen the can of worms Mr. Limbaugh was opening by bringing the topic of race into his comments. There are numerous ways he could have gotten his general topic across, which was Donovan Mcnabb is overrated, without bringing race into the thing. Namely he could have said “I think Donovan Mcnabb is overrated.” Period. End of sentence. Even though I don’t like the man I recognize that he’s smart enough to have figured out a less controversial way to say it. So either I’m giving him too much credit or he purposefully said what he said with full knowledge of the controversy it would spark. I think it’s the latter and the former. ESPN is at fault here is well. They knew exactly what they were getting when they signed him up. I wish I knew what they thought they were going to accomplish when they signed him. What qualifications does he have to be a football commentator? He’s a regular Joe Blow football fan who happens to be famous. I’m a regular Joe Blow football fan. I’ve got a major in Broadcasting so I’ve got broadcasting experience. Why not hire me? Anyhow, this is a bazarre end to a bazarre situation. I say good riddance. Go back to you little radio show hole and don’t come back. You’ve proven that your place in this world is and should remain the land of niche radio. You’re not ready for the big time. Shame on ESPN for unleashing on an unsuspecting public. To conclude this rant let me state that fully support Rush Limbaugh’s right to free speech. I just don’t have to agree with his opinion and I don’t have to agree with his agenda/quest to stur up controversy where ever he goes.

War

20 Mar

Well it’s finally happened. After many months and years (the countdown to this began the day the original Gulf War ended) we are at war with Iraq. I have mixed feelings about this. While I may not feel completely comfortable with or agree with our decision to go to war, I fully support the members of our Armed Forces. All of you are in my prayers and I wish you God Speed. I’m sure there are many people who, like me, were unable to see Pres. Bush’s speech live this evening. If that’s the case, you should head over to www.whitehouse.gov. They’ve got the video posted over there. Irregardless of my feelings on the situation, I felt a strange need to witness the President say the words that thrust our country and the rest of the world into one of the worst endeavors man has ever brought forth on this earth, war. If nothing else this will definitely be a momentous event frozen forever now in history. We are at a crossroad. I wonder which path our leader’s decision will lead us down. Only God knows that. The rest of us will have to wait and see.
