Is It Just Me?

18 Jan

Is it just me or could Mike Shinoda (of Linkin Park and Fort Minor) and Prince Azim (Son of the Sultan of Brunai) be brothers?

24: The Return of Jack Bauer… Again

11 Jan

This is a response to a question posed on my friend Adam’s blog. The comment ended up being so long I decided to post it as a blog entry.

First about the DVD release of the premier. I bought it. Only $9.99 at Target. For once something is cheaper at Target than at Wal-Mart. I think the plan was brilliant but not any different from what they’ve been doing for the last couple of years. The 24 powers-that-be have been including previews of the next season on the DVD releases for the previous season for a while now. This is the next logical step of that process. It definitely worked in my eyes at least. When they flashed that promo on the screen Monday night I was immediately plotting out when I could get to the store to buy the DVD. I had to see what happened next. The promise of a sneak peak of next week’s action was too tempting to resist.

As far as the season goes the first episodes of each night left me kind of flat but each night finished strong. Hours 2 and 4 definitely made up for the slowness of hours 1 and 3. That’s the way it is. 24 has its slower, more expository episodes and then it has its nerve racking, edge of your seat, action packed episodes. Let’s hope there are more action packed episodes than slow ones this season. That’s been a knock against the series the last few years.

I like the direction they’re going. Can you believe what happened in the last 30 minutes of episode 4? Crazy!!! The stakes are much higher than they’ve ever been.

I’m very excited about the show. The best part of this season is the fact I have someone to watch it with now. I have turned my fiance into a 24 convert. We watched the 2nd half of season 5 a couple of weeks ago in preparation for the premier and she was hooked. She claims to have watched Season 1 but lost interest after that. As a devout 24 fan I found this blasphemous but choose to over look it because I love her. The important thing is that the lost sheep has returned to the fold.

For more 24 discussion and fandom check out Television Without Pity. They have episode in depth (yet humorous) recaps of each episode and lively Forum discussions about all things 24. I especially like the funny names they give the characters. You might be interested in their coverage of other shows too like Lost and Heroes.

Speaking of Heroes. Why does Heroes have to come on the same night as 24 and Prison Break? Until I can convince my fiance to get a DVR we’re either going to have to go to my house to watch all 3 shows on the same night (because I have a DVR) or resort to downloading the eps. a couple of days after the fact. We’ll work something out though.

This Is Classic

07 Jan

This article, ‘Why RIAA Keeps Getting Hacked’ presents a classic example of why people need to research and understand things before they go off on crusades about the evils of this and that. It’s obvious that the RIAA hasn’t got a clue when it comes to technology. I’m waiting with baited breath to see if Michael Green (President/CEO of the Recording Academy) will grace us with another Napster is bad, MP3′s are evil speech during this year’s Grammy Awards. Give me a break! Come back and talk to me when you’re not so ignorant about the subject you’re trying to talk down to me about.
