It’s Football Time! No the other Football. Make that Futbol !!!!

My first game of the Fall soccer season is tonight. I can’t wait. I’m starting to get the tingle. No not that kind of tingle. It’s a tingle of anticipation. Yes I’m happy the Football season is back but alas that’s merely a spectator sport. Fantasy Football is a little bit more participatory but it’s still participation from afar. Recreational soccer on the other hand is participatory. Big time. There’s nothing like a bunch of out of shape former high school and college players out on the field to play a match or two. But this season adds a new wrinkle for me at least. Co-ed Naked soccer. Err…. make that just plain old Co-ed soccer. (I’m going to suggest Co-ed Naked though at the next league wide town hall meeting.) It’s the same out of shape guys with women thrown in the mix. Should prove to be interesting. From what I hear the girls are tough and tendl kick your arse and ask questions later. Which is cool to me. I like my women fiesty!!!! I’m playing regular Men’s soccer as well. That kicks off this weekend. Men’s has become kind of old hat. Co-ed will be a totally new experience. I played Co-ed in college but that was indoor soccer played on a basketball court. This will be regular full field, 90 minute slugfest. Let’s get ready to rumble!!!!!!!!!! Bring on the ladies.

Last Comic Standing in the Real World of America On the Road, Rules!!!

I’m watching a rerun marathon thingy of the show Last Comic Standing. I know. I know. It’s been on the air for several months. In fact I think I read a headline on Yahoo! or someplace that the final episode just aired. So I’m behind the times. Sue me why don’t you.

First off let’s talk about what I don’t like about it. Enough with the so called “reality shows” with the supposed new slants. This show was great the first time I saw it, when it was The Real World. It was also great the second time I saw it when it was the first 3 seasons of Survivor. LCS seems to be trying to be all the reality shows wrapped into one with a little Millionaire and Weakest Link mixed in for good measure. Real World, Road Rules, Big Brother, Survivor swirled together with that generic, faux dramatic game show music made popular by Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and The Weakest Link. If you can’t tell already, I’m not all that high on the reality shows anymore. When I need my reality show fix I still tune in to MTV and watch the original, The Real World or its bastard cousin Road Rules. In fact, I’ve stopped watching the big 4 broadcast networks at night (with the exception of ABC for Monday Night Football and Fox for Boston Public) because they’ve turned into a crappy reality show wasteland.

Now to what I like. The folks on the show are funny. Damn funny. Which is why I’m watching this marathon this afternoon when I should be going to bed so I can get up and go to work tonight. What can I say. I’m a sucker for funny. So I may be willing to add Last Comic Standing to my reality show cannon (Survivor, Real World, Road Rules) but that decision will require a couple more hours of intense study. I’d better get back to it.

The World’s Not So Different After All

With the help of Superstation TBS I’ve caught up on all the Dawson’s Creek episodes I had missed over the years. Unfortunately that means that I have nothing to watch in the mornings anymore. Or at least that’s what I thought until this past Monday. I was flipping channels and stumbled across the Oxygen Network. It’s supposed to be kind of like Lifetime but more hip and cutting edge. Oprah owns a stake in it I believe along with several other high powered Hollywood leading ladies. Anyway I was flipping through channels and low and behold A Different World was playing back to back on Oxygen. ADW was(is) a great show. It started off as a spin-off from the Cosby Show. Bill Cosby executive produced it. It was supposed to be a vehicle for Lisa Bonet but she left after a year. Probably ran off to be with her man Lenny Cravitz. I had forgotten how much I like this show when I was a kid. I’ve seen most of the episodes I think but it’s been so long I’m enjoying seeing them as if for the first time. Move over Dawson, Joey, and Pacey. Dwayne, Whitley, and Sinbad are in town.
